Protecting Your Eyes In Spring
With Spring upon us, the sun is shining brighter and the days are becoming longer. We’re finally going outside again; we’re running, cycling, hiking, fishing, long boarding and just about every type of sport under the sun. With longer days comes more sun exposure (66% daylight in the Spring vs. the Winter), which is more than welcome now, but poses many potential problems. More sun exposure means more intense UV radiation and increased exposure to harmful UVA and UVB rays, which we’ve covered at length throughout our blog posts. Prolonged exposure to UVA and UVB rays can have harmful effects on your eyes over long periods of time. The damage can add up over your lifetime and can be linked to the development of cataracts and even macular degeneration.
Eye damage from UV exposure
Anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors can be at risk for eye damage caused by UV light. Risk of eye damage from UV exposure change from day to day and depend on a number of factors, including geographic location, altitude, time of day, environmental setting and other medical conditions, so be sure to be in the know of what makes you the most susceptible.
Sunglasses to protect your eyes in spring
Spring is the time to play harder, so to make sure that you’re able to do so, look for sunglasses that offer 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays. All of our Vigor products are equipped with our POV lens, which offers 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays. Our POV lens is unmatched in the marketplace. Its purpose is to make everything in play seem clearer to the naked eye. They’re made up of as many as 10 individual layers and are one of the most technologically advanced lenses on the market. Our POV lens provides up to 360-degree glare protection, making sure the sun doesn’t affect your performance from any angle. Frames with a close-fitting wraparound style provide the best protection because they limit how much stray sunlight reaches your eyes from above and beyond the periphery of your sunglass lenses.
It’s important to remember that while you need to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays when the sun is shining, you also need to protect your eyes on cloudy or overcast days, as UV rays can penetrate through clouds. Use smoked black lenses with green or blue tints to protect your eyes on sunny days and use Amber or Rose lenses on cloudy days.
